Meeting the great man.......................

We again it was an early start 4am today – thanks boys!!! And the coffee machine didn’t work!!! nightmare.
Lucky (or not) we have the bakery downstairs so Damian was sent off to get a rather large coffee & a muffie (it’s a cross between a muffin & cookie, delicious)
We had a few bits that needed sorting in the apartment so Damian went down to the office to sort them.  He then decided to go to the gym so the boys & I went to the family room to check it out – the boys were delighted to find a Wii.... So we played in there for while, there is a coffee machine but I could not work out how to work it!!!
We then decided to take a trip to the park, well part of the park as it’s HUGE, as we pulled up we noticed an ice Skating rink.  Both boys got very excited so we went to investigate.....
The very nice chap behind the desk when to ask if Ben could take his walker on the ice and the answer was YES, Be nearly burst with excitement.  So we got booted up and off the ice.  Ben went with Damian as he doesn’t skate t all and though he was the safer option as Jacob was raring to go!
What fun we had Ben managed to go round twice once with his walker and then half around with me holding him the Damian took over as it’s a full body workout holding he up on ice.  Jacob has a natural and really did well – future ice hockey champ in the making I think.
Then it was a quick lunch and off to meet Dr Park!
I have to say it had been a great distraction the Ice Skating as I had not had time to think about the appointment.  As we entered the hospital building the boys we pointing out everything they could see, we asked at reception where we need to go and off to the lifts we went.  Jacob the child once scared of lifts was now eager to press the lift buttons, as we walked into the waiting area and sign in my heart started beating double time the boys made a bee line for the toy table.  The door opened and who walked out but Annabelle (Ben’s SDR twin, she is have her op before Ben) and her family, which was so great to see them then briefly told us what to expect as they had just finished.
Then we were called in, first we watched a video presentation of the SDR during it Ben began to go a little pale and said he felt sick, James very kindly got him some water.  I don’t know if it was the realisation of the surgery or just that we were in a very small hot room and he was wearing a thick top, I hope it was the later.  After that we changed rooms and meet the lovely Deanne the physio, she got Ben laughing and he was fine, she asked question and took Ben’s measurements and told us what we need for the pre op videoing on Wednesday.   Then back to the waiting room.
The Newton Smith family bobbed by the say hello, Abigail had surgery on the 16th Dec – I have been speaking to her mum through Facebook for a while now so it was lovely to meet face to face at long last.  Abigail very kindly show us her badge of honour – her scare, WOW it was so neat and small then I though, Ben has a look too.  Abigail then gave me a big hug and told me it was all going to be ok and Ben would be fine, at that point I cried! Then she started to sign ‘Fix You’, which made me cry more.  She is one amazing young lady.
The James appeared and said it was time to see Dr Park, Ben rushed in with excitement and we all sat on the sofa and stared at the door.  It open and in walk the man himself.
Well what a truly wonderful lovely man, he and Ben had a few laughs before he asked Ben to show him how he walked, sat and even run, well try to.  Then he talked about what would happen during surgery and what to expect after surgery.  He said long term he expected Ben to be an independent walker and only need an insert in his shoe and may be a stick for longer distances – to this I looked t Damian with my mouth wide open, just amazing......

After the essential picture of Ben & Dr Park, a few more questions and a bit more of his medical history we were all done and free to come home.
It was just an amazing feeling to finally see Dr Park and for him to meet Ben, we are so very lucky that we have been able to get Ben here to have this truly ‘Life Changing’ operation, Thank you again to everyone, this is down to you all for supporting & helping us on his journey.
We decided to celebrate by going out for tea – so a quick walk across the street to Applebee’s for some food. The boys did really well as they both were shattered, Jacob did fall asleep just before we left and I had to carry him back, glad we live so close.
