Day 4 Post Op

Today has been a good day. It started with a therapy session at 9am, Ben struggled with holding his head whilst sat upright in his wheelchair and had some discomfort whilst doing his exercises but by the end of the one hour session he was able to hold his head on his own without any pain. He is starting to realise that the more stretching and exercise that he does, the easier it gets even though there is some pain along the way. The difference in 24 hours is amazing, Ben has gone from finding it painful to move in bed to sitting up and getting into his wheelchair and riding this afternoon. In this afternoons session Ben rode a trike around the hospital corridoors for half an hour and really enjoyed himself without any pain. If we had been told that he would be riding a bike 4 days post op we wouldn't have believed them. The therapy session was with "Mad Mike" who was great with Ben, really motivating for Ben and wouldn't let him get away with doing anything less than 100%.
After our morning session we had a visit from someone to cast new splints for Ben, he was in and out of our room in about 15 minutes and Ben got to choose the colour of the straps, foam pieces and patterns that are stitched onto the straps (Red, Yellow and flames). We should have them tomorrow before we go and Ben will wear these for 6 weeks before new sharter splints are cast to be worn and then changing to smaller shoe size splints which will be fantastic for him.
Charlie and Tina from Calendar said their goodbyes to us all today as they are flying back to the UK in the morning, it's been great having them around for the week and we're looking forward to seeing what they will put together for the news programme on our return.
Dr Park called in to see Ben at about 5pm and was really happy with his progress and he will call in again in the morning once we have had our 8.30 therapy session and are discharged about 10am. We are all looking forward to be all going back to the apartment and only coming back to the hospital for daily one hour therapy sessions. Ben has been couped up in a hospital room for the past four days so he is looking forward to getting out and into our own place.

I hope that I have covered everything, I'm sure that if I have missed anything out that Charlotte will be more than happy to let you know and put it in tomorrows blog. On the other hand if you have found my blog much better then please let me know.

It's 18.30 now and Ben is settling down for the night watching i Carly, hopefully he'll be off to sleep soon so that I can change channel!!!!

More from Charlotte tomorrow
