Day 6 Post Op.................

Well it was lovely to all be here together, after a few tears at bedtime, both boys (as they were sharing a bed) scared of hurting each other, but soon all was quiet.
Ben only woke 3 times during the night for drinks & the toilet and still no pain.
So we were up and got dressed and sorted very slowly as we didn’t need to be at the hospital till 11am, I was pleased that Ben managed a normal breakfast.  Luckily his wheelchair fits well next to the dining table.
So it was a very quick brisk walk across the road to the hospital – again it was very very cold but we have found a short cut through another part of the hospital, so we were soon warm.
It was PT with Erica today, Ben had managed to stand with Damo supporting him under his arms with his walker last night,

and today he seemed to be on fine form & ready to work hard.  He managed transferring to the chair well, better then yesterday.  He then they practiced standing up & down from the chair, again there was a HUGE improvement from yesterday and you could tell he was pleased with himself as we all were.
A bit of bowling & basketball, so many sports so little time.  Erica really pushed Ben to do his best and he worked equally hard.  We are so proud of Ben in so many ways he is amazing to see  & the sheer determination in his eyes just proves he wants to get better and stronger & we did make the right decision about the operation.

After a short ride on the bike PT was over, it was off down to get a quick bit to eat before our second appointment of the day – Dr Dobbs the orthopaedic Surgeon.  Dr Dobbs came in to the room and introduced himself and his team, again a lovely man.  He asked a few questions then took a look at Ben’s legs and feet.  His decision was Ben needed Hamstring lengthening on both sides & heal cord on just his right, he said it would only be one day in hospital & the way he does the surgery means Ben will be back doing PT the day after surgery, this had been one of our concerns that he would miss a lot of PT but this was not the case.  Ben seem ok about the fact he was having another op, and they confirmed it will be next Thursday (20th) the nurse will ring the day before to advise us on when to stop eating and drinking – I feel we have been here before!!!!
Then it was off to the grocery store – we hoped Ben would be alright as he had been in his wheelchair since 10:30am, but we were running low on supplies.  After a 20 minute ride we arrived at Shop n Save, an hour and a half later we were all done.  Somehow lots of chocolate items end up in our trolley!!!!! And a rather large bag of red liquorice (I am addicted to it!).
Back at home we skyped the family and a few select others!!! And settled down to a quiet night in.
