Day 5 Post Op....

Hope you enjoy Damo blog but not as much as mine!! One correction his new splints will be with us in a week not today – they are quick but not that quick.
Damian was on night duty and reported that all went really well, Ben only woke a few times for drinks & the toilet and what’s more not meds!!!! AMAZING.....
We woke to snow!!!!
So Jakey & I got to the hospital at around 8am to see Ben fully of it, Damo went off to get some breakfast and Ben prescription as it was discharge day, whoop whoop....  Ben seem a little agitated this morning I don’t know if I was winding him up or just he had had enough of the 4 walls of the hospital, as we all had & we were missing being together as a family.
So Tylenol was given and Damian got Ben into his chair – which again was getting easier and he was in less pain, then off to PT with Erica – Ben was a little pale and seemed weaker then yesterday I am a little worried as he does not seem to be eating much but hopefully his appetite will improve soon and boost his energy levels.  He managed to do some high kneeling and standing all with lots of support and took a few steps.

Jacob fell sleep on the floor!!

Ben seemed to find it a lot harder today then before but I know he is trying so very hard and he is still frustrated by the lack of independence he currently has.  Erica gave us a few bits of information about do’s & don’ts for the next couple of days and some information to give to Ben’s UK physios as well.
We have been told he is now due to see Dr Dobbs the Orthopaedic Surgeon tomorrow after physio; we have not told him about the second surgery yet as I feel it would be too hard for him to understand right now.  We will wait and see what he has to say.
After physio it was back to the 12th Floor to discharge & get to the apartment, a few papers signed & that was it, all belongings collected and we were off.
Ben was tired and excited as he had not seen the new apartment, to be fair it was very similar to the other one.  He had a great deal of pain as Damo put him into the car and seem to be in a lot of discomfort the whole journey which was about 5 minutes.
As soon as we were home and settled Damo went back to the hospital to help take the Wardleworths to their Hotel.  Ben seemed to cheer up as we got into life in the apartment – and Nickelodeons’ ‘Big Time Rush’ episodes back to back on demand would make any 9 year old happy!
The day passed by quite quickly few Skype calls back home and even one very special one for Ben from one of his best friends and his sister, Ben went mad on showing them all the extra features we have.  They all had a good laugh – just what Ben needed.  Thank you.
We have to also do physio at home, Ben is a little miffed that this has to be done but he understands that he need it to get stronger and he is desperate to walk.
Well that’s today in a nut shell, tomorrow it’s off back to the hospital for physio and Dr Dobb’s – think it’s Chinese for tea.
