Day 7 Post Op........

A week ago today we were heading to the hospital for Ben’s operation!!!! Mad.
Well thanks to Ben we all had a fantastic night’s sleep and even got a lie in!!!
So it was a slow start to the day, physio was again at 11am so we were in no hurry.  Ben again required no pain meds during the night in fact he was only have meds half an hour before PT.
We have really got this morning routine sorted now, Ben is increasing in his mobility and is need us less to help him move on the sofa but dressing & toileting he still needs help.  He is really back on form which is so lovely to see his cheeky smile is back for good.  I had worried that he may never forgive me for putting him through all this, but now he can see rapid improvements I think he’s  a lot happier as we all are.
Thank you to you all for you wonderful messages and constant encouragement, this has help us all during our low moments – which to be fair have been few (thank goodness).
I managed a cheeky Skype call to my wonderful cousin in Greece before breakfast, so lovely to see her and her beautiful baby.
After pinning Ben down to give him his Tylenol he has grown to hate, it was off to physio.  The weather is still cold and it even looked like there had been more snow over night.
Ben was extra excited today as it was PT with Mad Michael, he is so full of energy he really gets the children motivated to work extra hard during their session.  Ben knew he would be going on the treadmill today as Erica had mentioned it yesterday.  As we arrived it was so nice to see Evan & Annabelle and their families just finishing their sessions, the Brits are taking over!!! So Michael took us straight to the room where the treadmills were.  To be fair I did not think Ben would manage it as he still seemed too weak.
But as with all things Ban proves me wrong! – First attempt he needed both Michael & Damo’s help, 50 seconds not bad...  Next attempt Ben failed!!!! – laughing was the cause Ben just can’t stop laughing & when he does his whole body buckles and he collapses onto his chair.  One big deep breath and focus he was up – 2:22 minutes, WOW.  He was still not walking well he finds it hard to swing his left leg, that has always been his worse side and will need a lot more work nevertheless (check out my connective!!!) he walked the whole time with no support other then holding the hand rails.  This was AMAZING to see and the sheer elation on his face said it all.

Then off for a walk on his walker – again huge improvement today, it’s just mind blowing to see him improve so quickly although there is a great deal still to do.  A quick game of Soccer! With Michael in goal then our hour was up.  Ben had worked really hard today & looked totally drain by the end.
A quick stop downstairs for a sandwich then off in the car to explore Manchester Road, the boys though I would lead to Manchester, England – well Jacob did Ben was just humouring him like all good bothers do.
Another Mall visit was needed, well the boys were not best pleased until they realised that there was a Build-a-Bear new shoes for their bears.  I tell you these bears are going to be better dressed then all of us!.
Back home a few Skype calls back home – I love the fact we can not only speak but see our families it means so much when you’re so far away, think I have spoken to my family more here than I do in the UK....
The evening was quiet the only exciting thing was trying to give Ben a good wash as you can’t get his wound wet, very interesting and quite funny for us all to see.  Pyjama’s on and we all settled down to watch a film, Shrek – Forever After.
