Day 8 Post Op....

Well another day begins in St Louis – Today is Ben’s last PT till Monday he gets the weekends off, something he is looking forward too, but we will have to work hard on our own physio session...
Today was a little warmer than it had been so no need for the 6 layer today just 3 will do!!!
Another session with the wonderful mad Michael, Ben just loves these session he make it such fun that Ben does not realise he’s doing exercises.  We decided after a chat with Michael yesterday not to give Ben his meds before PT, as it was beginning to be a struggle to get him to take it as he hates the taste.  I put it in the bag just in case....

As we walked in we got an update no Annabelle’s treadmill antics – Ben has decided whatever Annabelle does he has to bet.  So the gauntlet was in place and Ben when over to the treadmill.  She had managed a wonderful time I thought there was no way Ben would bet it, again how wrong could I be...
He managed 5 minutes at 0.5 speed twice!  He is working so hard you can see improvement hourly now, he is desperate to walk by next week, that’s his own pressure not us we are amazed by the progress he makes – I think he gets it from Damo, constantly pushing himself to do better.

Even walking with his walker is getting better, his left leg need a big swing to get the right placement but he is getting there.  Next it was the Bionix machine; this helps measure and strengthens his thigh & hamstring muscles.  Ben loved it as it recorded how well you do so he can see it and how much he needs to improves each time he uses it.
That was that PT done for this week Damo arranged with Michael to borrow a bike for the weekend so we could go to the park and have a walk and Ben still get some physio at the same time.  We decided to try and find somewhere new for lunch, but found ourselves in area where we did feel comfortable or safe so a quick U-turn & we found another burger bar that looked alright so we went in for a spot of lunch.

The afternoon was a quiet one; I think we were all in need of.  Ben again surprised us – he got off the sofa and crawled into the bedroom where I was, then he went back and showed me how he can get back on the sofa, he is truly amazing he is constantly pushing himself which is so lovely to see and he never (touch wood) get to dishearten by it all.
Jacob is a coiled spring and is in desperate need of some physical exercise so I think a rather long walk tomorrow might do the trick, they are both itching to go to the Zoo & The Science Centre, but we have been told to avoid them at weekends so they are on next week’s list.
We managed to Skype family & special friends back home, which we all really love, and is now a daily requirement for all or sanity.
Well tonight will be tea at Applebee’s across the street – a few beers or apple juices and a quiet night maybe a movie or 2.

Towards the end of todays PT session, Ben tried the stairs, he managed them but it was a struggled.
